Dear Gordon
This photo was taken roughly were you stood to take your picture of the remaining Pillar which was the entrance to the once mighty works which completely closed down in 1968
If you were to turn to the right, facing North, you would get the other pillar on the other side of the entrance to the works.
I believe it is the only remaining physical asset which was part of that huge site, I hear it is under threat of demolition by a developer and The West of Scotland HA have no cash apparently to save it
The Property Advisers for the proposed retail park project have submitted a plan outline to GCC on the 21st July 2009
I would have hoped it could have been saved as a marker for what stood in the area, maybe have a Cast Iron Lamp on top like the pillars you see in Hillhead
